Pro Wrestling NOAH “GREAT VOYAGE 2013 in OSAKA”, 1/27/2013 [Sun] 16:00 @ Osaka BODYMAKER COLOSSUM (Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium)

[NOAH News] Pro Wrestling NOAH held a press conference today for their big show that is happening on January 27th.

The show will be headlined with Morishima defending his GHC Heavy belt for the 9th time against KENTA. KENTA has already shown that he can defeat the champion one one one just this year on January 6th, and he is looking to carry all the momentum heading into the title match.

The GHC Tag belts will be on the line as BRAVE’s Marufuji & Sugiura take on the NO MERCY duo Maybach Taniguchi & Yoshihiro Takayama. Takashi Sugiura has nothing but revenge on his mind against Maybach Taniguchi. Maybach got the upset win over Sugiura on the November 17th show and paraded around with the tag belts after the match like they were already his to take. Sugiura aims to still show Maybach that his win over was nothing more than history.

Ishimori aims to bring the GHC Jr. heavy belt back home where it belongs by getting a decisive win over All Japan’s Shuji Kondo. Ishimori seems to be more fired up than ever to lay claim to the GHC Jr. especially with it being his 10th Anniversary since he debuted in Japan and his 30th Birthday coming up in early February. This match is definitely up in the air at this time, but should be a solid contest over pure power vs. pure speed.

Ogawa and Kotoge also stated that they are ready to face off against the NJPW Junior legends on the show, with leaving the thought that the winning team could be in line to face the current reigning GHC Jr. Tag champions in “Los Mexitosos” Super Crazy & Ricky Marvin on a later date. Though we will see what happens.

[NOAH Update] Pro Wrestling NOAH announced an update in regards to the wrestlers who will be competing for them this month.

But NOAH has announced some new updates to their initial list.

Following the 1.6 show a new masked man has appeared in the promotion dressed exactly like Maybach Taniguchi. Today, NOAH announced this new masked man will be competing as Maybach Taniguchi “Jr”. There is no information on his billed stats, but he initially appeared to be more of a junior heavyweight than a heavyweight.
Maybach Taniguchi Jr will compete for the first time on January 17th and then again on January 27th.

The second new name added to the tour is Bruiser Barry. Bruiser is connected to Shane Haste & Mikey Nicholls out of EPW in Perth, Australia and has been training in the NOAH dojo since November of last year. He made his pro debut in EPW in 2007. His stats are 188cm (6’2’’) and 100kg (220 lbs).

[NOAH News] Pro Wrestling NOAH announced that Takeshi Morishima will be having a show held in his honor to celebrate his 15th anniversary as a pro wrestler on March 22nd.

Morishima will be celebrating his anniversary in his hometown of Edogawa opposed to the Korakuen Hall where he originally debuted. He says it does not matter how small the capacity is if the building as he wants to give back to those who have supported him when he was younger.

No matches have been determined for the show as of yet, but Morishima says that he wants to be champion as he heads back home.
Morishima also originally debuted against Kentaro Shiga back in 1998, and it would not be too far fetched to see Shiga involved in the match along with Morishima.

[NOAH News] Pro Wrestling NOAH announced more matches, along with 2 more title matches, that will be taking place on their upcoming big show on January 27th in Osaka.

It has been determined that BRAVE’s Naomichi Marufuji & Takashi Sugiura will be defending their GHC Heavy Tag belts against NO MERCY’s Maybach Taniguchi & Yoshihiro Takayama. Maybach & Takayama picked up single match wins over the reigning champions on January 6th show and immediately called out for the tag belts to be on the line for the upcoming Osaka show. Marufuji & Sugiura have a lot to loss following their loses a few days back, but they both said they aim to revenge the loss.

Taiji Ishimori will indeed get his GHC Junior title match opportunity against Shuji Kondo on 1/27. Ishimori is more determined than ever to become the champion and after the match on 1/6 he has already proven that he can defeat the current reigning champion. With everything that has gone on with NOAH since the turn of the year, Ishimori is aiming to show himself as top tier junior heavyweight that NOAH needs to have at this time. Kondo & Ishimori have plenty of past history and Ishimori gives up at least 25+kg to the reigning junior champion, who really almost has the size of a heavyweight competitor. Ishimori has vowed that he will bring the belt home.

NOAH also announced the inclusion not one but 2 NOAH verses NJPW style tag matches will be taking place on the show as well.

[NJPW News] New Japan officially announced that Akebono and Bob Sapp will be added to WRESTLE KINGDOM 7 event to make the previously scheduled 6 Man Tag Match and 8 Man Tag.
Toru Yano originally announced that he will be bringing someone to join him for the show which was soon announced to be a former IWGP Heavyweight Champion in Bob Sapp. Yano was sure that the big muscle man would be a they key for his team to overcome the power of both Strongman & Nakanishi.
This though left it open for Nakanishi to bring in someone to be his second which came with Akebono making his appearance on the December 23rd show to come to the aid of Nakanishi from a Yano & Iizuka onslaught.
Manabu Nakanishi and Bob Sapp are far from strangers with their first meeting being on October 14, 2002 at the Tokyo Dome. The match would end in a count out. The same can be said for Akebono & Sapp, as Sapp KO’d the former Yokozuna at the K-1 PREMIUM 2003 Dynamite!! on December 31, 2003.

[NOAH/Onita News] Atsushi Onita held a press conference to announce that the upcoming 6 man tag between him and KENTA at NOAH’s Ryogoku show on December 9th will be contested under a Street Fight Tornado 6 Man Tag Death Match rules.

Onita also mentioned the “RUMOR” report of Kobashi becoming and a freelance work and Akiyama resigning from NOAH by the end of the year. Onita is not one to let any kind of issue/turmoil fly by without making mention of it. Onita was usually the one at the center of controversy and accusations in the past.
He also mentioned that by all means he wouldn’t mind having a match against Kenta Kobashi.

Major Rumor concerning the future of NOAH

Latest “Tokyo Sports” rumors are making press and it seems that 5-6 key wrestlers in Pro Wrestling NOAH will be freelance as of January 2013. Two of which mentioned are Jun Akiyama and Go Shiozaki.
An interview with Kenta Kobashi was released today and stated that he has shown intentions of becoming freelance wrestler when he returns.
Akira Taue (President), Naomichi Marufuji (Vice President), Takashi Sugiura, Takeshi Morishima, and KENTA will be remaining with the promotion as the leading names.

The speculated names to be leaving are the before mentioned Kobashi, Shiozaki, Akiyama along with Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Kotaro Suzuki & Atsushi Aoki. Sort of based on the notion of those who are closest to Kobashi and Akiyama.

RUMORS are not fact, let’s points this out now, but is not far from the truth with all the problems surrounding NOAH.

Money issues, problems paying wrestlers for time in the ring, and other controversies at this time.

Well here is some more information, Akira Taue took charge to announce before the show that there is indeed “contract negotiations” going on at this time.
Kenta Kobashi wants to announce something from his own mouth at upcoming Ryogoku show on December 9th.
But clearly, Taue said under negotiations in regards to the other “5” or so mentioned.

My take:
This is a very unsettling time for a lot of fans of NOAH, and this has to be a PR disaster for NOAH and Taue to have to deal with.
Honestly, I told a number of people earlier year that if someone happens in NOAH by the end of the year, please don’t come to me shocked by what transpires.
Rumors have be circulating pretty much freely since the death of Misawa in 2009, and NOAH has slowly been losing the glue that has been holding them together.
Ryu Nakata and Jun Akiyama have been reported in the past of having issues, especially with his friends like Makoto Hashi & Akitoshi Saito being let go of their actual contracts abruptly by the promotion. Saito has fared a little better than most after being placed on a freelance contract, but it seems a lot of that stemmed from Akiyama making a huge deal out of it.
A few think that Akiyama will still compete for NOAH, but if the truth lies on the difference between Akiyama and Nakata, well then that might sever the relationship completely.
Akiyama can easily find a home back in All Japan for the time being, and Aoki & Kanemaru will surely follow suit, if this is all so that is to say.
Kobashi can clearly just move to a freelance contract, as he only works so many dates a year, it sort of makes sense that him being on a full contract is kind of pointless in a way.
Go Shiozaki is kind of the shocker amongst the names, but with Misawa not there he has looked up to Akiyama for guidance.

This does not mean that NOAH will not exist, but it definitely puts a damper on things. Marufuji, KENTA, Morishima, and Sugiura we be the new leaders of the promotion as the mainstays.

I kind of didn’t want to post this, but I feel it should be said if anything but to invoke some thought.

This in a way is nothing more than history repeating itself.
Mitsuharu Misawa forced the split from AJPW with NOAH due to different thoughts on how the promotion should be handled going forward, so he forms NOAH and causes one of the biggest ripples of all time in Japanese Pro Wrestling history.
Take us 9 years later, and Misawa passed away.
The same backstage politics are now showing up in NOAH following the passing of Misawa like that after Baba passed and All Japan they didn’t have their foundational leader.
That caused the split to begin with. Pro Wrestling is not without their own faults, as much as we want to fans and support a promotion with our full love and support, we can never control what is happening backstage with a promotion.
It is a pretty true statement that history repeats istself, and things are are all apparently coming full circle in NOAH.

[NOAH News] Following the previous news of Onita appearing at the NOAH offices and demanding a match against KENTA.
KENTA could not sit back and have some slander NOAH or himself as he aims to be the face of the promotion in due time, and to do so means he must face any and all who challenge.
In return to Onita’s challenge, he retaliated and made the showdown official, but in a 6 man tag form. KENTA knows that even if he challenged Onita one one one that it would be KENTA vs. Jado-gun for the long haul of the match, so a 6 man tag should indeed solve things on an even level.
KENTA announced that he will be teaming with his fellow NO MERCY teammates in Maybach Taniguchi and Yoshihiro Takayama to take on Atsushi Onita and the partners of Onita’s choosing.

It should be noted, that even NOAH mentioned, that there has been some kind of fan backlash on personal blogs about the potential of the upcoming match and whether having Onita come in could stain the purity of the promotion.
