In April of 2002, he would make an excursion to Meixo where he would begin even more training, though it would be short as he would suffer an eye injury that would force him to return home that June. He would be out of action for a few months when he would return in November of 2002 and begin working against Hiroyoshi Tenzan.
He would soon after become a member of the Maki Club and began working as the masked Makai No.4. His style would also change as he would begin utilizing more kicks as well as he would be placed into the heavyweight class of New Japan.
