[AJPW News] Manabu Soya held a press conference at All Japan’s offices in Tokyo to announce that he will resigning from the promotion at the end of the year.
Manabu has been unable to compete since March of this year when he announced that he was suffering from an oculomotor nerve paralysis (eye problems) and a cervical herniated spine. The injuries forced him to seek surgery thus kept him from active competition for the rest of this year.
He said that he wants to choose his own life in professional wrestling, and that this is something he decided upon earlier this month. He does not want to burden All Japan by signing a contract if he unable to compete, but if he is able to compete he wants to do what he feels is best for his future. He hopes that this does not create any sort of tension between himself and All Japan, and there is nothing absolutely nothing forcing him to leave the promotion for good.
Manabu stated back in June that he wanted to remain in All Japan following the split that happened and even stated that he wanted to reunite with Takao Omori and “GET WILD”. He apologized to the fans for potentially being unable to fulfill his word, but he will keep the wild alive in spirit if all else.
He then stated that after surgery on his left shoulder and left eye that he has fully recovered and a return is very much looking possible at this time. He said that the final diagnostic results will be known at the end of December, to whether he will be allowed to return to the ring or by the doctor’s decision he will have to hang up his boots for good.
Manabu has been loyal to AJPW since he joined the promotion with his mentor Osamu Nishimura in October of 2007. It just appears, more or less, that Manabu is looking to make the decision that best suits himself and his future, if he is indeed allowed to continue competing in the ring. Sadly it has been a fear to many fans that he would be unable to compete, much like his brother being forced to retire in 2012 due to a severe jaw injury. It seems we will know what will happen by next week, so be sure to check back for all the latest information.
