If you missed the news from early this morning, as posted on the facebook page (www.facebook.com/PuroresuSpirit), NJPW has been 100% sold to Bushiroad Inc. Bushiroad as a company is still very young as they are going on their 5th year as of this time. They are more notably known for their range of card based games, also have ties in Anime, Video Games & Social Media. they also has strong ties with their market based around the whole world and notably earned 1 billion yen (about US$13,000,000) alone in August of 2011. Early indication has pointed out that NJPW was sold for roughly 500 million yen, which comes to about $6.5 million US dollars.
Going into more depth with Bushiroad they have been a financial backer for NJPW, especially in the last year, and have sponsored dozens of wrestling shows and events in the past.
Of course, this year marks the 40th Anniversary for New Japan and Bushiroad is looking to take the promotion further. The CEO of Bushiroad, Takaaki Kidani, has been noted to be a huge fan of pro wrestling and is said to be very enthusiastic for the future. He even said at the end of the conference that he will like to eventually “topple/overthrow WWE”. Those are some bold words, but with some new attitude’s controlling NJPW anything can be possible.
Some other things to note is that there was talk of expanding the market outside of Japan. NJPW sort of started this last year with the NJPW USA tour, but it seems they may be looking to do more (or in other words to not just limit the market to Japan
